The 2014 Met Ball celebrated the opening of the Metropolitan Museum's fashion exhibit. Hosted by Vogue magazine, editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour oversaw the guest list of A-list celebrities and power couples. This year did not disappoint with many exquisite gowns and designs flooding the most renown and watched red carpet in the world.

Best dressed goes to the stunning actress Blake Lively. Lively wore and amazing fitted Gucci gown with a plunging neckline, finished with a long cape. In a beautiful metallic rose gold colour, the actress continued her old world glamour look with soft curls and natural makeup. Not to mention, Lively had a great accessory by her side, husband Ryan Reynolds. He too wore a Gucci, sporting a midnight blue velvet tuxedo. Together (and separately) they ruled the red carpet with their style and natural glamour.

Another standout of the red carpet was singing sensation Beyonce. Making every outfit she wears look amazing, this year Queen B did not disappoint with her sheer black Givency gown. She complimented her gown with a sheer veil and kept the accessories to a minimum so the gown and veil tell a story. With plain black gowns not usually a popular colour on the summer red carpet, Queen B made it work with its soft sheerness and elaborate detail.

Sarah Jessica Parker stunned the Met Gala in an Oscar De La Renta black silhouette gown with an opulent white full skirt. Expecting nothing less from the style queen herself, SJP knows how to make a statement on the red carpet bringing a little bit of Carrie Bradshaw out on such an integral night of fashion.

There was a great deal of colour on the red carpet with pink, red, blue and green being the popular choices. Anne Hathaway wore a red two piece outfit designed by Calvin Klein. The design simple but classic with the colour complimenting Hathaway's pale complexion. Emma Stone wore a two piece crop and skirt designed by Thakoon. With the skirt and crop being a different tones of pink, this outfit gave the carpet a nice burst of colour.

Power couple the Beckhams came out in style in Black and White. Victoria showcased a beautiful white silhouette gown from her own label Victoria Beckham, with David complimenting his wife in a Ralph Lauren white blazer, black slacks and a pair of Cristian Louboutins. This look was simple but classy showing off their beauty and style.

With another year done and dusted, we look forward to what next year has to offer and whether these A-list celebrities will continue to impress us with their style, glamour and beauty.
