The Lace Effect

The Lace Effect

When I think of white lace and crochet my Grandmother's kitchen comes to mind; she had a tablecloth made from lace and crochet doilies around the place.

However designers and fashion brands have started to use lace and crochet materials for another reason.

If you love the feminine and romantic look then go no further than this. Crochet paired with white lace is popping up all over the catwalk for 2014.

I spotted a lot of this at the Virgin Australia Fashion Festival runways this month and I have a feeling this look won't disappear fast, and with good reason.

Dolce&Gabbana is currently embracing lace, with many lace dresses, skirts and tops featuring in its Spring Summer 2014 collection. I suspect other designers will soon follow.

Celebrities are loving this look too. Remember the white lace gown Beyonce wore to the Grammy's this year? She looked divine, and managed to look like she wasn't wearing a wedding dress.

Other celebs spotted in white lace and crochet include Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba and Rihanna.

If you want to try this gorgeous look out, winter is the perfect time to try. Forget black lace for the colder months because this season it is about standing out. Both white lace and crochet look absolutely gorgeous together and you can team these up with some black boots and a black leather biker jacket for a seriously edgy look.

Pop on a darker coloured lipstick such as mulberry or a deep red and some chunky jewellery and your look is complete. I also love a black bra visible underneath a white lace shirt but a white bra looks great too if you prefer a more feminine look. Anything goes with lace, so experiment and be bold.

Crochet is harder to match and can sometimes look dated but paired with lace you will have a real winner.

Sheer and transparent materials are hot right now so give it a go.

Lace and crochet look gorgeous together.

Lace is no longer made just for lingerie and wedding dresses, nor my grandmother's kitchen.
