Clothing Rainbows Colour Block Your Wardrobe
Someone once said you are what you wear. But what if what you wear was part of a rainbow? An all-weather, indoors kind that you can enjoy everyday?
The great thing about wardrobe rainbows are that no two will ever be the same. We all have different clothes, sizes, and ways in which we classify things that we visually see before us.
How do you order your clothes Dresses next to long pants, to skirts, to shirts and cardigans Why not grab a pen and paper to visualise the end result
Is your kind of rainbow a red to purple? Or a red to indigo? Does it separate winter clothes from summer? It is all up to you, there are no hard and fast rules!
There are many perks of going to the trouble of colour blocking your wardrobe. These include:
Multiple stunning instagram/social media photo opportunities
Colour coordination of outfits in seconds
Easily stick to neighbour hues (reds and oranges/greens and blues)
The entertaining surprise every time you open your wardrobe
Below I will suggest a way in which you can create a personalised colour blocked wardrobe.
You will begin with a wardrobe somewhat jumbled and much loved as shown below.
Before your excitement takes hold, make sure you have a dedicated play area for laying down clothes and rearranging them to your hearts content. A clean bed will do just fine.
Allow for some blank space in your wardrobe to insert bunches of coloured clothes and see how they work against each other. The more space the merrier!
Next you'll need to pick a colour, any colour, and begin by working with what clothes you have available. Including colour neighbours in this pile is also a good idea. Lay them out in your work space, all the better to see!
This is where your decision regarding organisation (whether practical or visually appealing) needs to come into play. I decided that my longer garments such as dresses and pants should fade into shorter garments such as skirts, shirts and jackets, and then to do the reverse (long, short, short, long) to mesh into the next colour block.
Place clothes in a pile on top of one another, ready to go in your desired order.
Finally, bring all the colour pile segments together into your wardrobe space. Be prepared to move things where they would work best, for example, neutrals such as cream and grey work best for me on the right hand side of my black clothing.
The effort does not stop there though. Be mindful that you will continue to remove and add garments throughout the week. Hence the challenge remains; see how long you can keep a bright rainbow shining in your wardrobe.
